Life has been everything but easy for Amaria Waters. As a result she learned to fend for herself early on and adopt an introverted lifestyle, away from everyone and everything. That is until Marlon ‘Munni’ Payne comes in and forces her to make room for him in her life, but not before some terrifying memories rear their ugly heads at the sight of each other.

This is a love story filled with unfortunate events, but throughout it all, Amaria and Marlon (Mari and Munni) never lost their love for one another. As a reader, I found myself empathizing with both characters, whether they were hurting, angry, or just being stubborn. The flow of the book was fantastic and kept me engaged. Whenever something happened in Munni’s chapter, I was eager to read Mari’s perspective in her chapter to see things from her point of view.
While I wasn’t initially excited about reading Carmen or D-Low’s chapters, I came to understand how difficult upbringings can shape how people treat others—sometimes for better, sometimes for worse. However, Carmen and D-Low, despite their tough pasts, were adults who could have made better life choices and treated others with more kindness.
Where Carmen and D-Low faltered, characters like Malcom, Bull, and Kari stepped in as Mari and Munni’s saving grace. I don’t want to spoil too much, but Munni proved to be the perfect protector for Mari—looking out for her past, present, and future. They truly deserve to find happiness and live a blissful life. I’m definitely looking forward to Part 2!
